Abortion

 

It is defined as the expulsion or removal of an embryo or fetus from the womb at a stage of pregnancy when it is incapable of independent survival i.e. at any time between conception and the 28th week of pregnancy. While women of every social class seek terminations, the typical woman who ends her pregnancy is young, white, unmarried, and poor. Women who undergo medical abortions experience cramping and bleeding, and pass the pregnancy as though they were having a miscarriage.

An abortion is the removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus from the uterus , resulting in or caused by its death . A surgical abortion for a pregnancy over 12 weeks is usually done while the woman is sedated, although it can also be performed while the woman is awake. Commonly, "abortion" refers to an induced procedure at any point during pregnancy medically, it is defined as miscarriage or induced termination before twenty weeks' gestation , which is considered nonviable.

Threatened Abortion

There is abdominal pain and bleeding from the womb but the fetus is still alive. Such a woman must take complete bed rest for a few days and must consult a doctor.

Inevitable Abortion

Once a fetus is dead, abortion is said to be inevitable.

Spontaneous Abortion

Also known as miscarriage. Generally occurs within 12 weeks of conception. It is commonly due to a fall, travelling on a two-wheeler or three-wheeler, auto-rickshaw, active sports. It may also occur in women with diabetes, syphilis.

Septic Abortion

An abortion carried out under unsterile conditions and by unqualified persons lead to a perforated uterus, sepsis, blood poisoning and death.

Symptoms of Abortion

Some common Symptoms of Abortion :

  • Currently pregnant.
  • Avoidance of pregnant women, men, doctors, children or baby clothing.
  • Frequent or uncontrollable crying.
  • bleeding.
  • Low back pain or abdominal pain.
  • Nightmares or flashbacks.
  • Anxiety.
  • Tissue or clot-like material that passes.
  • Fear of punishment from God.
  • Inability to tolerate the sound of a vacuum cleaner or a dentist's drill.
