Goodpasture's syndrome is a form of rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis. It is a rare disease that can affect the lungs and kidneys and also called anti-glomerular basement antibody disease. this condition in which the body's own defense system reacts against some part of the body itself. When the immune system is working normally, it creates antibodies to fight off germs. the immune system makes antibodies that attack the lungs and kidneys, instead of the germs. It is an autoimmune disorder, which means that immune cells attack the body's own organs, causing inflammation. Sometimes the disorder is triggered by a viral respiratory infection or by inhalation of hydrocarbon solvents. Sometimesis disorder is rare, affecting approximately 1 out of 100,000 people. It is most often seen in men ages 16 to 61, usually around 20 years old. Smoking increase the risk of developing the disorder. It may develop after a recent viral respiratory infection. There is an inherited predisposition for Goodpasture's Syndrome. The disease usually manifests with the excretion of protein and blood in the urine. It progresses rapidly to kidney failure. Immune system may attack organs or tissues because it mistakes them for these viruses or foreign chemicals.

Goodpasture's syndrome and researchers believe that the gene or genes involved affect the way the immune system reacts to certain invaders, increasing the likelihood mistaken identity in the lungs and kidneys. Renal lesion is glomerulonephritis. It is a disease of young adults. It is a spread Mostly are men. Both lung and renal pathology believed 2° to anti-glomerular basement membrane antibody cross reacting with lung basement membrane. Acute hemorrhagic pneumonitis occurring in the lung in association with changes in the kidney is known as Goodpasture's syndrome. The condition has been successfully treated by exchange blood transfusion. It is charaterized by deposits of antibodies in the basement membranes. Both the kidneys glomerulus and the lung alveoli, causing both glomerulonephritis. It is an autoimmune disorder.

Causes of Goodpastures Syndrome

Common causes of Goodpastures Syndrome

  • Antibodies.
  • Autoimmune disorder.
  • Smoking.
  • Glomerulonephritis.
  • Pulmonary(lung) bleeding.

Symptoms of Goodpastures Syndrome

Common Symptoms of Goodpastures Syndrome

  • Urinating.
  • Vague.
  • Fatigue.
  • Nausea.
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Paleness.

Treatment of Goodpastures Syndrome

Common Treatment of Goodpastures Syndrome

  • Goodpasture's syndrome is treated with oral immunosuppressive drugs—cyclophosphamide and corticosteroids—to keep the immune system from making antibodies. Corticosteroid drugs may be given intravenously to control bleeding in the lungs.
  • Avoid glue sniffing and siphoning gasoline.
  • Stop smoking to decrease risk in those with a family history of renal failure.
  • Immune suppressants such as cyclophospamide(cytoxan) or azathioprine are used aggressively to reduce immune system effects.
  • Kidney transplant maybe quite successful if kidney function is poor
