Metronidazole Topical Medication - Uses and Side Effects

General information

Metronidazole Topical is an antibiotic. Metronidazole is used to morsel acne rosacea (adult acne). Metronidazole topical prevents bacteria from developing on your skin. Metronidazole topical is used topically to treat the inflammation, pustule formation, and redness of the bacterial infection rosacea. This medication may cause burning, stinging or redness when first applied to the skin. Metronidazole comes as a gel to be applied to your skin and as a gel to be used. Clean and dry the area to that you will apply metronidazole. Apply a thin film of medication.

Metronidazole Topical is usually applied twice daily in the morning and evening. It is used twice daily for 5 subsequent days to treat infections. Do not use this medicine in or near the eyes. Watering of the eyes may occur when the medicine is used too close to the eyes. Topical metronidazole is gettable mostly gel, cream and lotion. Wash your hands before and after using this medication.

Do not take by mouth. It must not be used in or near the eyes. Avoid using abusive, abrasive, or irritating cleansers, perfumes, or cosmetics during therapy with metronidazole topical. Avoid exposure to sunlight or sun beds while you are being treated with Metronidazole.

Side effect of Metronidazole Topical

  • Burning.
  • Itching.
  • Drying.
  • Redness.
  • Irritation of the skin.

Metronidazole Topical Dosage

  • Adults—Apply to the affected area(s) of skin two times a day, morning and evening, for nine weeks.
  • Children—Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.

Warnings and precautions before taking Metronidazole Topical

Do not drink alcohol while using the gel. Alcohol may cause an upset stomach, vomiting, stomach cramps, headaches, sweating, and flushing (redness of the face). Avoid your eyes, nose, mouth, and lips when applying metronidazole topical. Keep this medication in the container it came in, tensely closed, and out of reach of children. Avoid using acrid, abrasive, or irritating cleansers, perfumes, or cosmetics during therapy with metronidazole topical. Do not use other topicalediction or over-the-counter products on the same area. Seek emergency medical attention if metronidazole topical is ingested or a very large amount is used.
