Baldness is a major problem affecting millions of Americans of both sexes. An estimated one billion US dollars are spent on various types of baldness treatment each year. Baldness refers to the lack of hair on body areas where hair normally grows. More commonly, it refers to the lack of hair on head. The most prevalent form of baldness is androgenic alopecia or ‘male pattern baldness’ that is found commonly in men. Baldness may be ‘partial’ i.e. involving some hair loss from the head, or ‘complete’ in which case all hair on the head is lost (a condition medically called alopecia totalis). The most extreme form of baldness is alopecia universalis in which all the body hair is lost.

While no single and complete baldness cure exists for all kinds of hair loss, different methods of treatment for baldness have been developed to improve the appearance of the affected area. These range from treatment with drugs and diet to hair transplant and scalp massage. Following is a brief description of the currently available methods of baldness treatment.

Minoxidil, a drug used to treat high blood pressure, was found effective in reversing baldness by hair re-growth. Now Minoxidil is available as a topical solution for treating baldness. The solution is available under the brand names of Rogaine and Regaine. Its action is slow but it does help in re-growing hair on top of the head. Hair appearing by the action of Minoxidil is usually lighter and thinner than the original hair lost by the patient.

Antiandrogens are a class of drugs used as treatment for baldness. These drugs block the action of the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone) preventing it from weakening hair follicles. Finasteride, Dutasteride, Ketoconazole, and Saw palmetto are the more commonly used types of Antiandrogens. Finasteride is prescribed to male patients only.

Diet and lifestyle adjustment is also considered as a contributing factor for baldness cure. Reducing fat or caloric intake has been found to promote hair growth. Some studies show that adding caffeine to a shampoo may prevent baldness to some degree. However, the role of dietary caffeine in promoting hair growth has not been investigated yet. Daily aerobic exercise (or vigorous activity), stress-free lifestyle, and lower levels of insulin have all been shown to check hair loss and bolster up healthy hair growth.

Hair transplant is a surgical treatment for baldness in which a cosmetic surgeon redistributes the hair from thicker growths (back of the scalp) to balder areas of the head (top and front). In another method of hair transplant, called scalp reduction, the balding part of the head is surgically excised (shortened). Performed under the influence of local anesthesia, hair transplant surgery is used for treating both pattern badness and other types of baldness caused by skin diseases, and injuries etc.

An alternative and complementary treatment for baldness is scalp massage. By stimulating blood flow to the hair follicles, scalp massage nourishes the roots of hair and boosts the natural development of healthy hair. Finally, latest research in stem cells technology is expected to provide a new baldness cure called hair multiplication or hair cloning. This treatment method is expected to work by implanting special stem cells in the bald areas of the head. Its development is currently underway.

Back is a well-designed structure made up of bone, muscles, nerves and other soft tissues. Back pain is pain experienced in the back which may emanate from the muscles, nerves, bones, joints or other structures in the spine. Back pain influences 80% of Americans at some time in their lives. Most severe back pain is the effect of trauma to the lower back or a disorder such as arthritis.

Back pain can range from a tristful, constant ache to a sudden, sharp pain. Acute back pain arises on suddenly and generally lasts from a few days to a few weeks. Back pain is called chronic if it remains for more than three months. Symptoms may differ from muscle ache to shooting or stabbing pain, limited flexibility and range of motion, or an incompetency to stand straight.

Chronic back pain is pain which insistents for more than 3 months. It is usually progressive and the cause can be difficult to determine. Several uncommon bone disorders, tumours, infections, and pressure from structures near to the spine sometimes cause back pain. Another cause of acute low back pain is a Meniscoid Occlusion. Non-anatomical factors can also partake to or cause back pain, such as stress, repressed.

Back pain may be allegiant or sudden, mild or debilitating. Get the facts on back pain treatments, including medication, exercise, and chiropractic care. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) uses a unit which transmits a weak electrical current through specific points on the skin to nerve pathways.

Fusion surgery involves joining two vertebrae to evacuate painful movement. Heat therapy is useful for back spasms or other conditions. A stronger painkiller such as codeine is an alternative if anti-inflammatories do not suit or do not work well. Wear flat shoes or shoes with low heels.. Exercise routinely. An inactive lifestyle conduce to lower back pain. Acetaminophen has been shown to be as effective as ibuprofen in comforting pain.

Massage therapy-acupressure or pressure point massage may be more beneficent than classic (Swedish) massage. Vertebroplasty involves the percutaneous injection of surgical cement into vertebral bodies that have debacled due to compression fractures. There are several home remedies such as limejuice, vitamin c and garlic oil is also reduce back pain.

Dermatofibroma (DF) is a common cutaneous nodule of obscure etiology that occurs more often in women. It is also known as a histiocytoma. Dermatofibroma is pronounced as a benign skin growths, found especially on the legs. They can grow up to about 1 cm (less than a half inch) in diameter. The skin escalation is mostly consist of fibrous tissue. They arise as firm-feeling nodules, often yellow-brown in colour, sometimes quite dark, especially in dark coloured skin.

If the skin over a dermatofibroma is squeezed a dimple forms, symptoming tethering of the skin to the underlying fibrous tissue. Typical dermatofibromas cause bit or no discomfort, though itching and tenderness can occur. Dermatofibromas form as a retroaction to previous injuries such as insect bites or thorn pricks.

They are configured of disordered collagen laid down by fibroblasts. DF can happen in patients of any age, but it usually develops in young adulthood. Nearly 20% of the lesions occur before age 17 years. Dermatofibromas have scar tissue and feel like hard lumps in the skin. A minor injury to the skin such as a sting from a thorn, may lead to the dermatofibroma. Dermatofibroma, can be formed by an insect bite.

Treatment of dermatofibromas should be concerned when they get in the way of shaving or become irritated by clothing. Cryosurgery may also be used to remove a dermatofibroma. Other procedures are freezing the lump with liquid nitrogen to flatten it out but this is rarely completely successful and may leave a white mark behind.

Comedo is the cardinal sign of acne. A comedo is a ballyhoo of keratin and sebum in a dilated pilosebaceous orifice/pore. The comedo may be closed or open; the closed comedones are the whiteheads and the closed comedones are the blackheads. Closed comedones, resulting from an impediment of the pilosebaceous orifice that is deeper and less obvious, and typically seen in association with open comedones in the same patient.

A closed comedo has an obstructed opening to the skin and may fissure to cause a low-grade skin inflammatory reaction in the area. The common name for a closed comedo is a whitehead. An open comedo has a broad opening to the skin and is capped with a blackened mass of skin debris. It is commonly named as a blackhead.

The comedo is a plugged gland within the skin; it is pattern of sebum (oil), bacteria and dead skin cells which cause the hair follicle to dilate. Acne happens when sebaceous glands of the skin begin to secrete oil during puberty. These glands are galvanized by male hormones that are produced in the adrenal glands of both boys and girls. The oil lubricates and guards the skin.

Under certain occasions, cells that are close to the openings of the sebaceous glands block the openings. This causes a buildup of oil under the skin. Bacteria, that live in everyone’s skin but generally mind their own business, feast on this oil, multiply, and cause the surrounding tissues to develop inflamed. If the inflammation is right near the surface, a pustule is developed.

Acne is a common condition which influences most people at some point in their lives. It is affects about 80% of people in their teens and twenties, and up to 5% of older adults. Acne scar can be deep or sketchy, but the result is a socially debilitating disorder. Normally the lesions are most common on the face, but they may also develop on the neck, chest, back, shoulders, scalp, and upper arms and legs.

There are several kinds of acne scarring: ice pick scarring, atrophic scarring, and hypertrophic scarring. Ice pick scars are deep pitted scars with steep ends. Atrophic scars are pitted but have smooth borders and are not as deep. Hypertrophic scar, more common on the back and chest, are thick cumbrous scars that sit above the surface of the skin.

Angular scars which generally develops on the temple and cheeks, and can be either superficial or deep, these are uniform to chickenpox scars. The redness or hyperpigmentation is seen as the skin goes through its healing and remodeling technique, that takes up to 6-12 months. The perfect way to prevent post-inflammatory changes caused by acne is to prevent acne lesions from occurring.

Most effective treatments of acne scars are surgical. Laser resurfacing has been used for the treatment of acne scarring. All lasers use a high-energy beam of light that focusses specific structures in the skin. Subcision is used for atrophic scarring. Local anesthesia is used and a needle is then injected under the scar and smoothly moved under the skin to release the scar tissue.

Chemical peels, also known as chemical resurfacing , are chemical treatments to produce an improved complexion of the face, including acne scars. Skin grafting can be required to close the defect of the unroofed sinus tracts. Microdermabrasion method is a surface form of dermabrasion. Rather than a high-speed brush, microdermabrasion uses aluminum oxide crystals passing through a vacuum tube to remove surface skin.

Unsecured exposure to the sun causes more skin damage. Wearing a good sunscreen is essential. Using tretinoin (Retin-A, Renova, Avita) rapids up the skin’s remodeling process and helps heal post-inflammatory changes. Topical retinoic acid may be applied straight on the keloid. In some cases the best treatment for keloids in a highly susceptible person is no treatment at all.

Respiratory illnesses can contain a variety of problems, including colds, flu, runny noses, coughs, and sore throats. Lung diseases are disorders like asthma, pneumonia, tuberculosis, lung cancer, and many others. Lung diseases are conditions which occurs in the lungs.

Today, more than 25 million Americans are living with chronic lung disease. Lung disease can influence people of all ages, both genders, and all incomes, but affects a disproportional share of minority populations. Nearly 20 million people in the US have been diagnosed with asthma, with at least five million of them children below the age of 18.

Asthma affects about 20 million Americans and more than 70% of them suffer from allergies. Most children will prone at least six to ten colds, or other respiratory illness during a year. This number can even be higher in children who hearken daycare. Adolescents get colds, on average, two to four times a year. Ten percent to 15 percent of children with a respiratory infection can have pneumonia.

Hyperventilation is breathing in overmuch of what the body wants. This is sometimes termed as overbreathing. Hyperventilation syndrome is more certain and relates to an overbreathing pattern which occurs under certain conditions. Legionellosis is an infection caused by the bacterium Legionella pneumophila. Symptoms of the disease are high fever, chills, and cough.

Some people can also suffer from muscle aches and headaches. Meconium aspiration happens when a baby breathes in amniotic fluid having meconium. Meconium is passed into the amniotic fluid in around 5 to 15 percent of births. It normally occurs in babies born at term (37 to 41 weeks) or post-term. Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection caused due to a germ named Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria generally invades the lungs, but they can also harm other parts of the body.

TB spreads through the air when a person having TB of the lungs or throat coughs, sneezes or talks. Sleep complications can be caused by or the result of disorders in various systems of the body. Loss of sleep is supposed to contribute to strained relationships at home, and unfulfilled potential on the job.

Sleep problems can be treated or conducted by various medical specialties. About 29 percent of severe-to-the-driver commercial truck crashes are due to drowsiness. Sinusitis is respiratory disorders which is an infection of the sinuses near the nose. These infections normally occur after a cold or after an allergic inflammation.

Bronchitis generally refers to an cuspate inflammation of the air passages within your lungs. It happens when your trachea (windpipe) and the large and small bronchi (airways) in your lungs behoove inflamed due to the infection or other causes. Influenza (or flu) is a greatly infectious viral respiratory tract infection. Influenza is characterized by the sudden onset of fever, muscle aches, sore throat, and a nonproductive cough.

The ‘Atkins diet’ is a low carbohydrate diet. Carbohydrates have been taking a beating for their reputed effect on the waistline in recent years due to the surge of low-carb diets such as the Atkins diet..The Atkins diet helds the controversial belief that low fat is not the only way to go for a healthier lifestyle and weight control.

The Atkins diet is best matched for people who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or who are overweight and at risk for developing this disease.

The basis of low carbohydrate diets stems from the idea which foods which have carbohydrates, (e.g. rice, bread, pasta, sugar) promote insulin secretion and hence energy storage and the storage of fat. Low-carb diets are depended on the idea that if carbohydrate intake is limited, the body will use its own fat as a main source of energy.

Ketosis is the same state basically for people who are fasting or experiencing extreme starvation. Ketosis is when there are no glycogen reserves in the liver so the body breaks down muscle mass in order to make energy that are essential for brain function.

The Atkins diet is classified into three phases. Phase I – Carbohydrate is restricted to less than 20 g per day. They are allowed to eat fats, meats, eggs and small amounts of salad. All carbohydrate including food including fruit and milk, should be avoided. Vitamin supplements are encouraged. Phase II – Slightly more carbohydrate is allowed to encourage a gradual ongoing weight loss. Phase III – When the ideal weight is achieved, carbohydrate intake can be increased until the weight stabilises. Ideally, this should not exceed 90 g per day.

The Atkins diet is very controversial. The Atkins diet does not allow fruit, bread, pasta, grains, nuts, milk and starchy vegetables. The long term effects of the Atkins diet and until this is available it is impossible to predict the happening of long term side effects. It is also not know if this diet has any benefits over conventional diets. It is possibly not advisable for diabetic patients on insulin therapy to attempt the Atkins diet.

The low carbohydrate content would make their blood sugars harder to manage and predispose to hypoglycaemia. Mninmising insulin doses as a result may lead to diabetic ketoacidosis. Men and women lost twice the weight on the Atkins plan, than to those individuals following a ‘high-respected’ low-fat diet.

Paget’s disease is a metabolic bone disease which involves bone destruction and regrowth, which results in deformity. Paget’s disease causes a malfunction in the normal process of bone remodelling. Paget’s disease of bone is more often in the UK than in anywhere else in the world. It tends to suffer people over the age of 40 and there are more cases in men than in women.
