Autism is believed that several genes are involved in the development of autism. A large database showing theoretical links between autism and genetic loci summarises research indicating that the genetic influence may extend to every human chromosome. Approximately 3 to 6 out of every 10,000 children born are diagnosed with autism. A child with autism may resist cuddling, play alone, be resistant to change, and/or have delayed speech development. Persons with autism tend to exhibit repeated body movements. Autism is more prevalent in boys than girls, with four times as many boys affected than girls. The large number of autistic individuals with unaffected family members may result from copy number variations (CNVs), spontaneous alterations in the genetic material during meiosis that delete or duplicate genetic material. Environment and season of birth predicted the development of an autistic disorder, but subsequent investigators have not confirmed these associations. Treatments such as dietary modification and vitamin therapies, medication, music therapy, colored or prism lenses, auditory training, sensory integration, social skills programming, speech therapy. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has become widely accepted as an effective treatment for ASD.
